Η πρώτη Διάθεση κυκλοφόρησε το 1968, μια χρονιά που δεν την έζησα αλλά κατόπιν έμαθα ότι γεννήθηκε ένας δικός μου άνθρωπος. Κάποτε είχα τη διάθεση να αριθμήσω τα έργα μου και τότε σκέφτηκα ότι θα μπορούσα να ξαναδουλέψω και να χαλάσω έργα άλλων για να θυμάμαι το πόσο σημαντικά ήταν για τους πρώτους δημιουργούς και για μένα. Κάπως έτσι ξεκίνησα το '1968/24' μια 24ώρη επεξεργασία ήχων από το έτος 1968. Ποτέ δεν ολοκληρώθηκε, έδωσε όμως την ιδέα χρόνια μετά για τη 'Διάθεση'.

Αρχικά ξεκίνησα να συγκεντρώνω το υλικό του παιχνιδιού μου. Κράτησα τη σειρά των πρώτων δεκαπέντε μικρών κομματιών. Άλλαξα τελείως την τονικότητα. Έπαιξα με τραγούδια από τους λαιμούς μακρινών λαών και χορωδίες από τη γειτονική Βουλγαρία. Το πρώτο ήταν στη μόδα εκείνη την εποχή, υπήρχε μέχρι και διαφήμιση με τέτοια τραγούδια. Το δεύτερο ήταν σαφώς μια μόδα, ειδικά για χειμερινά σπορ. Δεν ήθελα να ξέρω ότι αυτό δεν είναι πολυφωνία, αυτό που ήθελα να κάνω ήταν να μπερδέψω πολλές φωνές και να μην είναι αναγνωρίσιμες. Σίγουρα δεν με ενδιέφερε να δουλέψω με αρμονίες. Ήθελα να δείξω ότι δεν υπάρχει σωστός τρόπος και η τοποθέτηση των φωνών και των ήχων που προέρχονται από αυτές μπορεί να γίνει με διάφορους και αδιάφορους τρόπους.

Σε κάθε μέρος των πρώτων δεκαπέντε κομματιών υπάρχουν πολλές επαναλήψεις. Οι αρχικές ηχογραφήσεις είχαν αρκετούς λαρυγγισμούς και πειραματικά τραγούδια από τυχαίους αλλά και επαγγελματίες ερμηνευτές. Η σύλληψη της ιδέας ήρθε κατά τη διάρκεια ενός περιπάτου σε ένα μικρό εκκλησάκι σε ορεινό χωριό της Βουλγαρίας. Η μυσταγωγική και παράλληλα εμπορική πολυφωνία των γυναικών που υμνούσαν την καθημερινότητα του παρελθόντος έγινε ένα με τις ιδέες του γερμανού συνθέτη και το έργο του Stimmung που είχα να ακούσω πολλά χρόνια. Αργότερα έμαθα ότι ο Stockhausen έγινε ο πρώτος δυτικός δημιουργός που χρησιμοποίησε ξανά την τεχνική του τραγουδιού στο Μεσαίωνα, δηλαδή αυτήν που ασκούσαν γυναίκες και παιδιά στις εκκλησίες, αλλά αργότερα αντικαταστάθηκε εξ ολοκλήρου από την ανδρική Γρηγοριανή μουσική.

Δεν ολοκλήρωσα ποτέ το έργο. Σταμάτησα στον αριθμό 15, παρόλα αυτά οι ελληνικοί τίτλοι έφτασαν στον αριθμό 51. Αναριθμητισμός. Τυχαίο; Ακριβώς όπως το Stimmung ήταν μια ημιτελής δουλειά και πιθανότατα εμπνευσμένη από προηγούμενους καινοτόμους μουσικούς όπως ο Stravinsky, o Wagner και ο Purcell, έτσι και αυτή η μικρή σπουδή θα παραμείνει καλυμμένη με το προσωπείο του Αγαμέμνονα.

Ένας στοχαστικός παραλληλισμός του βασιλιά που με την άλωση της Τροίας πήρε μαζί του σαν σκλάβα την μάντισσα Κασσάνδρα, κόρη του ηττημένου βασιλιά. Μαζί επέστρεψαν στις Μυκήνες, αλλά δολοφονήθηκαν από τη σύζυγο και τον εραστή της, οι οποίοι ανέβηκαν έπειτα στο θρόνο. Η ιστορία κατά τους αιώνες έριξε σε άλλους πρωταγωνιστές της ιστορίας τα φώτα της. Το χρυσό νεκρικό προσωπείο του Αγαμέμνονα, εύρημα της ανασκαφής των Μυκηνών το 1876, τελικά είναι κατά τρεις αιώνες περίπου προγενέστερο από την εποχή που ο Αγαμέμνονας υποτίθεται ότι έζησε. Ωστόσο, το όνομα του προσωπείου παρά την ανακάλυψη παρέμεινε.

The first Διάθεση / Mood (Stimmung) was released in 1968, a year that I did not live through but later learned that a person of my family was born. Once I was in the mood to number my projects and then I thought I could rework and blend other people's projects to remember how important they were to the original creators and especially to me. That's how I started '1968/24' a 24-hour compilation of sounds from the year 1968. It was never finished, but it gave the idea years later for 'Stimmung Blended'.

I first started gathering material to play with. I kept the order of the first fifteen little sound pieces. I completely changed the tonality. I played along with songs from the throats of distant peoples and choirs from neighboring country Bulgaria. The first one was in vogue at the time, there was even an advertisement with such throating songs. The second was clearly a fad, especially for winter sports. I didn't want to admit that this is not polyphony, what I wanted to do was to confuse many voices and make them unrecognizable. I certainly wasn't interested in working with harmonies. I wanted to show that there is no right way and the placement of voices and the sounds that come from them can be done in various and indifferent ways.

In each part of the first fifteen tracks there are many repetitions. The initial recordings had a lot of laryngeal and experimental singing by random recorded as well as professional performers. The conception of the idea came during a walk in a small church in a mountain village in Bulgaria. The mystifying and at the same time commercial polyphony of the women who praised the everyday life of the past became one with the ideas of the German composer and the work of Stimmung that I haven't had heard for many years. I later learned that Stockhausen became the first Western composer to re-use the technique of singing in the Middle Ages, that is, that practiced by women and children in churches, but later entirely replaced by male Gregorian music.

I never completed the project. I stopped at number 15, nevertheless the Greek titles reached number 51. Renumbering. Random? Just as Stimmung was an unfinished work and probably inspired by earlier innovative musicians such as Stravinsky, Wagner and Purcell, so this little study will remain shrouded in the funeral golden mask of Agamemnon.

A thoughtful parallel of the king who, after conquering Troy, took with him as a slave the fortune teller Cassandra, daughter of the defeated king. Together they returned to Mycenae, but were murdered by his wife and her lover, who then ascended the throne. History over the centuries has shed its lights on other protagonists of history. The gold death mask of Agamemnon, found in the excavation of Mycenae in 1876, after all, predates the time when Agamemnon is supposed to have lived by about three centuries. However, the name of the mask despite the discovery remained.
